The Speaking test is recorded for marking purpose. The examiner will give the candidate an IELTS cue card with a subject such as family, education, work, lifestyle, interest, sports, newspaper, reading, etc and a few guiding questions on the card.

Candidates should note that this task contributes twice more than task 1 and plan their answers accordingly. Additionally, candidates might get penalized if they write less than the recommended word count or if the response is off-topic or if they plagiarized their answer.
In this part of the IELTS exam, a candidate will be assessed based on their speaking ability, and it will last about 11 — 14 minutes. This test consists of 3 parts, and the examiner will record the examination throughout.
