Warbonnet blackbird hammock setup

It was like being swaddled. Additionally, I found the price to right on. Having just spent 6 weeks hiking the AT and sleeping in my Blackbird 1. My sleep quality was excellent. Elevating my legs to the degree of my choosing at the end of each day was outright therapeutic. The quality is amazing, I had zero problems with the zipper, tie-outs, or body of the hammock.

Frequently surrounded by insects, I had not one bite even though the hammock was untreated with insecticide. I have had a Blackbird for about a year and I have used it almost every weekend for three-season use. Yet it still looks like new! It is by far the most comfortable hammock I have ever used and the features are just right without being overkill. Josh C. Absolutely love the Blackbird! Got my in today and headed straight to the woods to try it out.

The hype is real! The quality is top notch as well as the level of comfort. Impressed … really impressed! When I got to about forty I lost the ability to sleep flat on the ground, no matter what mattress. I tried a cheap mosquito proof hammock, and never looked back. After a couple of years, I decided to get serious and invest in a good hammock. My choice was the Blackbird. I carry a full underquilt. I love the gear shelf. I never stand out the sides any more.

In winter I use a large tarp I bought with the hammock, so I can get it down to the ground to block the wind. In summer I use a smaller tarp, pitched high. I bought the two layer model which has served me well, but I stopped using a mat so my next one will be a single layer. I own a set of whoopie slings but I love the simple set up of the adjustable straps so much I gave them to my son. This is the one piece of gear guaranteed to come on any overnight trip.

Once, at minus fifteen, I agreed to sleep indoors, but only when I realized I could hang my Blackbird from the bunk beds. I used a double layer 1. I was always comfortable and felt protected from the elements. I hung my backpack and my food from the hammock suspension—everything else hung from the ridgeline over the hammock itself; only my shoes and trekking poles were on the ground. I used the gear shelf for all those things that you might need at 1 a.

Three people told me a mouse chewed holes in their tents looking for food—none ever touched my food. I was forced to camp recently on an 2. I tossed and turned on the air mattress and never got comfortable. In the Blackbird, I sleep on my back and wake up fully rested with no memory of ever having moved during the night. Great piece of gear and I daresay money well spent! Delivery was faster than expected and quality appears to be top-notch! I converted to hammock camping in my older age because of back issues and that is how I came in to possession of the WBBB.

If I had one of these earlier, I would have enjoyed years of better sleep on the trail that the Warbonnet Blackbird affords! This hammock is incredibly comfortable! The footbox really does make a huge difference. I dreaded going to sleep and having to constantly change positions. I love the outdoors but not getting a good nights rest can really hinder a trip. I hung this in my room as soon as I got it to test it out before I take it out into the wild and I have spent a couple of nights in it.

I think that I actually prefer sleeping in this over my tempur-pedic! There are so many different sleeping positions that you can use and if you use a topquilt it is so much less constricting than sleeping on the ground.

I simply love this thing and find myself taking naps and watching TV in it just so that I can use it more! Brandon does great work and got me my hammock quickly for a campout I have coming up. Thanks Brandon!! I have heard people talk about this hammock and design for years and every bit of it is true and more.

Love this hammock for its design and thought for utility … like the foot box and shelf. Small things make a big difference.. I could not be happier with my BB.

As expected, after reading the many reviews of Warbonnet products I finally received the BB. Every stitch and seam were perfect. The lay in the hammock was almost perfectly flat. The legend continues…. I just received the War Bonnet Blackbird hammock less than a week ago, but have already trail tested it on an overnight stay on Peekamoose Mountain in the Catskill Mountains of NY. But honestly, there was nothing wrong with the hammock that I can think of at all.

The little shelf is a nice touch as well. The only negative…which is not a problem with the product really…is that in the high winds of the mountain, the hammock swayed and woke me up.

Again, that will happen with any similar product. The only area that I think Warbonnet can improve is in their customer service. The website said deliver was 2 weeks out. I sent a message with my order to ask for more specific timeframe. The response, which came a week after the order, was about 2 lines that said the hammock was 3 weeks out.

The communication was very disappointing and I was honestly about to cancel the order based on that. I am glad I did not. The hammock came after about 2. Since it seems to be a good product, I am letting the lack of communication slide.

Had it had problems, I would have had a much different review. What more can I say. Easy to setup, living in the Caribbean we are prone to bugs. I wanted a hammock to bring out on the fireline for overnighters and did some research and decided that a little extra money was worth the features and quality of this hammock. I was right. I originally bought the 1. Shortly after, I decided I needed a second hammock to always have in my fire pack.

Love it. Love the foot box and the storage area for small items. Think I am converted and I am very unlikely to go back to a tent. Sooo comfortable. Two thumbs up. The pad holder is a definite bonus too, no more schooching around trying to get it from sliding out from underneath me. Highly recommend this product.

I leave next week Wednesday for a week long trip and my blackbird will be coming with me. I have hung this a number of times in the backyard and am amazed by how well made it is.

The webbing suspension is super easy to hang and then adjust. Well worth the wait to get it. I had my girlfriend sit in this the other day and she in now going to order one for herself. Bottom line so far this is an awesome product and I would not hesitate to recommend this hammock to everyone!!! This is the best hammock I have ever used. Easy to setup and super comfy. Thank you. I now own three of these. I had to give my first one to my son, I ordered another one, and now my youngest son got his.

We love them — we do a lot of hiking and camping, never worry about flat ground again, in cooler weather a thermorest works in between the layers.

I am 6 foot — lbs and it is perfect. We use them in spring, summer, fall camping. Love the foot box and the shelf. This is the best sleep system I have found, other guys I go with try and tell me how they build their own… I hang mine and they all want to use it.

It is worth every dime, the design has thought of everything. Great job… Happy camping! Sets up quickly with very little practice. The double wall bottom is great for your thremorest style mattress for added warmth. Brian C. It really is an out of the box design when it come to hammocks that results in a superior lay. The shelf it a great design that removes the need for a ridge line organizer and can hold much more gear.

The pull out for the net make the interior feel much more roomy. I bought the double layer version and it holds a pad well. If you trim your pad a bit to conform to the lay in the hammock you will find that pad stays where you put it and gives great coverage.

To top it all off the quality of the workmanship is well beyond what one expect in this price range. I have only spent a few nights out in it but, it is better thantany other hammock rig I have used in the past. I expect that I will be using for years to come.

There is a wait and they are not the cheapest but, definitely the best hammock I have found yet. The Blackbird is my first hammock.

I weigh , so I decided not to chance it, and got the double layer 1. I always used to hate morning sleeping on the ground— never feeling refreshed, sore hips or shoulders, having to crawl around in the tent, etc. Not anymore. After the first night in the Blackbird, I was refreshed, not sore, and ready for another long day in the trail.

The footbox in the Blackbird was roomy. But the killer feature for me was the storage shelf. It was so handy having medicine kit handy when my throat got sore due to the dry air in the Maroon Bells Wilderness Area. I just reached in and found my lozenges, no need to get up, dig through my bag, or even turn on my headlamp. The shelves are awesome, great for putting middle of the night emergency things there, and the foot box made it so comfortable, was better than my bed at home.

Heavy duty product from the kind of companies that should be supported by whatever industry they are involved in. Just like the headline says better to sleep in than my high end home bed. Also the construction and materials are absolutely top notch. Thanks for king such a great product and keeping the manufacturing in north American.

Along with my Warbonnet top quilt and tarp I was toasty and dry as a bone. I bought the double layer 1. The Whoopies are great and worth the small extra cost. I also switched out the suspension system for all Spectra line and slings. After a little work I have the perfect set-up. I wish I had switched from tent camping sooner!

I purchased this hammock for backpacking purposes for a few days at a time. I am also changing from tent camping to hammock camping. I have never used a hammock and I have also never tied a single knot in my life other than to tie my shoes. I had this hammock set up with a tarp and all of the guy lines within 5 minutes using the video in the video section of this website. The customer service was unbeatable.

I emailed warbonnet with a ton of questions and they responded to each question and addressed them fully. Next comes comfort. The hammock is easy to set up and I slept like a baby. During the middle of the night I easily slid my air mattress between the dual layers and instantly fell right back asleep. Even with the air mattress it was extremely comfortable. I will do my best to leave another review after some other than fair weather camping. Teardown was as easy as it gets.

With the knots that were shown in the video section I was able to easily break camp and have everything packed up within about 10 minutes. This will be much easier than tent camping and much more comfortable. This is without a doubt, the most comfortable I have ever been outdoors. Tons of room, love the shelf and the footbox. I use the cinch straps and it takes me about 1 minute to set up. Shipping was very fast. I was expecting it to take a few weeks…I got it in 4 days. Now I am a snob. I feel like I finally bought the best of something to use on the trail, and I can look down on the other hangers.

Every stitch and thread is in place! Super easy setup with the whoopie slings, comfortable, lightweight, convenient built-in features with the side pull-outs, bug net, storage shelf…everything is fantastic!

After using a friends Blackbird a few weeks ago I immediately ordered one as soon as I got home. This hammock is well thoughtout and clearly made to be the most comfortable as possible. The foot box, storage space, ease of set up and strong fabric are what makes this hammock stand out from the other ones. I opted for the nylon straps instead of the whoopie slings and with two carabiners I have my hammock up in 30 seconds and my tarp overhead exactly how I want it within another 5 mins.

The exaggerated foot box, to me, is what really sets this hammock apart. This is our first experience hammock camping and we are totally impressed with both the comfort and quality of our Blackbird hammocks. We have used this tarp in heavy snow conditions, to the hottest jungles in the world.

The Polyester fabric is more stretch resistant and has lower water absorption, while the Nylon is a stronger more durable fabric.

Both are good options, weights are similar for each. Both fabrics have a minimum mm hydrostatic head waterproof rating. It is used in cooler weather to cut the wind and trap a little extra heat. It has 2 built-in mesh air vents, one in the peak at the foot end and another near your shoulder that doubles as a window.

It works just like the XLC net top but with solid fabric instead of netting. We fully understand that this system is expensive and it is a big investment. But we truly believe this the best overall sleep system for any type of camping down to 0 degrees. You absolutely can't beat it and once you get accustom to hammock camping you won't go back. Buy once cry once is our philosophy. Numerous wilderness instructors owned this system before we started selling it.

We paid full retail for them and don't regret it a bit. Buy in one place and get everything you need without having to gain the knowledge from a million different video reviews and forums around the internet first. Trust that we have put together the full package for you and this system will work for anyone of any size below 6'6". Why hammock systems over tarps, tents, etc.?

The advantages of a hammock are almost too many to list. You never have to worry about preparing the ground under you or sleeping on a rock. Water seepage and moisture issues that you have with tents are non existent. They are lighter and pack smaller. Sleep more comfortably. Lay flat design is great for side and back sleepers. Leave no trace or sign on the ground for tactical purposes.

You can pitch them pretty much anywhere. We have even slept right next to waterfalls in them where it would be impossible to use any other shelter. They are by far the coolest shelter in the warmer seasons, and with the right sleeping equipment you can take them down to 0 degrees. Coolest shelter you can use in the summer and one of the most comfortable in the winter with the right insulation. We even know of a guy in Ely, Minnesota that has slept in them down to degrees with lots of down to keep him warm.

The tarp is more modular because you can turn it into a floorless tent, you can open the tarp up for a great breeze or you can stake it to the ground for cold conditions and eliminate the wind entirely.

The options are endless. I have used this hammock in the late fall, in light snow wind and rain. Very impressed with quality. Also customer service was off the charts. I called multiple times and they were very much helpful and answered all my questions that I had.

Product shipped and arrived a Early. I can't review this because i never tried it. I've been busy but aim to do it as soon as i get some time. To be honest i hate camping. I hope i never have to use this thing. I'm sure happy to have it. The comfort ratings can be pushed somewhat but you will be trading in comfort in doing so.

You loosen the ridgeline by loosening the hammock suspension and you tighten the ridgeline by tightening the hammock suspension. The ridgeline should be neither super tight nor drooping, and this will be achieved when your suspension straps run at about a 30 deg angle.

This refers to the weight of the fabric only, the heavyweight fabric being a heavier, stronger, more durable fabric than the lightweight fabric. It does not refer to the weight or weight capacity of the hammock itself. So single layer vs. All weight capacity and product weight info is listed in the collapsible product details boxes to the right of the product description. For more information on which one is right for you, see our hammocking page.

Also keep in mind that if you are considering buying a new pad to use with one of our end-gathered hammocks like the Blackbird or XLC , that an underquilt will be much more comfortable and a lot less hassle so you should seriously consider putting that money towards an underquilt instead.

Continuous loops: This option is not a useable suspension by itself. It comes only with small Amsteel loops on the end of the hammock that act as anchor points for the attachment of just about any suspension type.

Easy to use and adjust, almost no learning curve. Suspension weight: 6. Suspension weight: 2. The topcover not to be confused with a topquilt which is similar to a sleeping bag is an optional add-on accessory that goes with the XLC hammock, It does not replace a tarp, although it is water resistant like a sleeping bag or windbreaker is so it will shed light moisture.

It is made of breathable fabric and comes with two built in vents in order to avoid condensation issues. The benefit of the Topcover is that it will trap heat much better than mosquito netting and will generally raise the interior hammock temperature to about 15deg above the outside ambient air temperature so it is very popular among those that do alot of cold weather camping.

We have several different hammock models each having different features, a breakdown of the differences can be found partway down our Hammock page. All of our hammocks come with the stuff sack included and your choice of suspension.

Recommended items are listed on each hammock page. Great product, caring customer service. This is a model of business that more companies need to strive for!

I truly sleep better in my blackbird xlc than I do in my own bed, I joke with my wife that I am going to get rid of our bed and buy her an xlc and hang them both in our room HA! There are no pressure points, it is literally the most comfortable I have ever slept.

At home I wake up out of my normal bed and it takes me a bit to loosen up and get moving, when I wake up after a night in my blackbird xlc I am not sore at all and no tightness! James E.
