Yes off is horrible, on is a little blurry, I use the middle option Standard Smoothing, or whatever it is called. I can't see ANY different between Font smoothing and regular fonts.
Here's what I'm looking at.. I even magnified it in order to get a closer look. Regular Font - No smoothing. No, there is a difference indeed font smoothing - in order: none, standard, cleartype :. Maybe it is just my eyes or maybe my hardware but I've seen it the same on many different system configs and the only one that clear type really looked good on was the one I mentioned with the LCD display.
Reglar font smoothing DOES work afterall! I just tested it out myself Only for large fonts though. I've found it works pretty well on CRTs in higher resolutions but nothing dramatic. Tried enabling it on my wife's notebook and there is a clear difference at any resolution.
All documents I've seen say it has the most effect on notebooks and I'd have to agree. Similar threads 3. I have a question for those of you who are the color guru's here. I used the reviews on this site to purchase a Viewsonic VX I really love it so far. Upon recommendation of xtNight I downloaded the calibration profile from digital versus for my monitor.
I didn't see much of a difference when I applied the profile but adjusting the RGB and Brightness made it look better. The person I am designing the site for tells me the graphics are all way too dark when I show him the prototype. I check it on a TN panel I have in my house on another computer and sure enough it is much darker. On my Viewsonic however it looks great. Are my calibration settings wrong or am I just designing on a better monitor than the majority of people's monitors who will be viewing it?
Is my brightness still set too high? I don't have a color calibration device but I am willing to follow any instructions or advice you may have. Thank you. Originally posted by: Buck Armstrong I'm curious about this too, because I've never heard of them and their website is pretty basic; not only does the online product description not match the manual, but the site only shows 3 consumer monitors, including the 26" that just appeared there yesterday, at least a week AFTER the product was being sold.
Meanwhile, the monitor has the same head and OSD, but a worse warranty and stand which is why its not height or swivel adjustable. Also, I found out why the manual seems to be describing another monitor: because it is!
Its the Planar manual down to the font! Thats why it shows the wrong base and so on: the drawings are of the PXW, not the Doublesight. I'd keep the Planar if I were you Originally posted by: Gatss I have a question for those of you who are the color guru's here. TVisitor Member. Jun 4, 84 1 0. No dead pixels, thankfully.
I'm running this off of an GTX, and it looks absolutely stunning. I have the brightness turned down somewhat, so it's better now.
I think I may have to futz with it a bit more I really haven't run any calibration stuff, not even nVidia's cheapo monitor setup stuff. Yesterday I had noticed that when I had big areas of even color like backgrounds on web pages I saw a bit of a It was very subtle. Today, I don't see that at all. After I get my monitor tweaked, don't bother with setup again. It's not like you're using it constantly. TempletonPeck Member.

I'm in Canada specifically BC and I'd prefer to get a monitor locally, so I can exchange, get repairs if necessary and try out different models with ease. Also, not having to pay shipping is helpful and no restocking fees at the stores I'm looking at purchasing from is also a bonus.
Also, the only reason I'd want to order online, is to try and get a IPS or VA panel which don't seem to be in stores anywhere locally. Not something I want to have to deal with if I need an exchange for any reason. There are other online stores probably, but I can't find any at the moment and I want to deal with a trusted dealer, also like I mentioned before there are benefits to dealing locally including time saved and no restocking fees. Not to mention you can return a monitor for ANY reason within 14 days.
Now to discount some models I've tried and returned already. From the recommended list, I had the: HP w Issues: 1 year warranty only. Also, what I'd describe as dithering issues maybe? Darker colours especially grey would show a checkerboard like pattern in video and even on the desktop, like in windows explorer, IE, firefox, etc. I didn't really like the bezel on it, besides the sound it made, it looked easily breakable. If you see a message from Windows, click on "continue anyway".
Once the installation is complete, restart you computer system. Upon restart your system should automatically detect and select the appropriate monitor driver. The wizard should start automatically. Follow the installation instructions. If you are selecting to do a Custom install, be sure to select the ViewSonic.
Open the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. Locate the drive icon that contains the CD — right click on it and select Explore to view the contents of the CD. I find 85hz uncomfortable when going back from hz, you eyes become accustomed quite quickly. Dec 10, 12, 0 0. Flicker becomes even more apparent with a larger screen, especially if you have a document window or some other large light area. Also, it would ultimately support a higher refresh rate at lower resolutions, which comes in handy if you are running vsync'd gaming.
Generally I'd say to run the highest refresh rate you can in each given resolution, but above 85Hz isn't noticably better to most people although dipping below 75Hz is.
So MatthewF01 I'd suggest using Hz and adjust the settings to use the whole screen. You may want to use the same refresh rate for all possible res ie 85Hz if you are likely to switch back and forth frequently from res to res and therefore refresh rate to refresh rate as Mingon suggests.
BFG10K , don't forget most of what's in discussion here is down to personal preferences and individual tastes. As for, 'a game running at 40fps will look good' I think the majority of people would hardly consider 40FPS a 'slide show' or horrible, of course FPS is more preferable but even FPS sustained are more than sufficient if you simply want to avoid a slide show, at least IMHO.

You'll see unclear and unstable display, in this case, try 75Hz, you will see much clear and stable display. Goi Diamond Member. Oct 10, 6, 4 Well, the question you should ask yourself is are you going to run at a resolution of x If so, can you stand 77Hz? My experience is that as you raise the resolution, lower refresh rates become more and more tolerable.
Try this test - on your current setup, run 75Hz at the resolution you normally use, then run that resolution at the maximum rate. See if you can spot any difference. Next, shake your hands in front of the monitor, and see if you can see the image of your hand break up between you.
Also note that as you reach the limits of the monitor video bandwidth, image quality decreases. For example, I run at x on my Nokia Xpro, and there's a noticable difference in image quality between 80hz and 85hz the maximum supported refresh rate of my monitor.
IQ at 85hz is blurrer. Not significant, but noticable Lonyo Lifer. Aug 10, 21, 6 I would say the minimum 'nice' refresh rate is 85hz, at any res x for me , and if you plan running your monitor at x I would go for the 85hz model. Jul 20, 8, 1 0. Personally, I can't stand anything under 85Hz. It's mostly whether you can notice it or not, I know sokme people who can't tell the difference between 70Hz and 85Hz.
