I found the problem to be the black paint on the Sony hot shoe. A light sanding with a nail file on the inside rail of the hot shoe was enough. Read full review. Verified purchase: Yes Condition: Pre-owned. I found the Minolta af electronic flash to be a good value when found in an attractive price. It has most of the features of more expensive units brought on the market later. The only missing feature I personally miss is a swiveling head feature as well as the variable bounce settings.
These are particularly useful in units such as the Metz handle mount models so often used by event photographers. For an old 35mm camera junkie like myself, this is an excellant multi featured flash. The has auto and manual settings.
If you attached it to your camera via the adapter and left everything on auto the flash would fire at full capcity everytime, always overexposing every shot. Used wireless you would have to do the same as well. What I would do is set the camera to manual exposure, set the shutter speed to the flash sync speed and then adjust the aperture until you have proper exposure. Mark and Peter - Thanks to you both for taking the time to help a novice to better understand the situation.
Wayne, you are welcome. The Metz probably works the best with the Sony's working only slightly better than the Sigmas, but you can get two Sigma's for the price of one Metz. This is my portable outdoor light setup. I am actually keeping an eye out for a cheap Minolta to add to this.
I sold a Minolta to get both Sigmas and find that they work a little more consistantly. The Sigma's can be controlled wirelessly three diferent ways and also have manual controls. Hi Mark, What are the serial numbers on your Sigma Flashes? I red on several forums that the old versions do not work properly with Maxxum 5D, and the new versions with serial numbers starting with What store did you buy from?
